Dataviews exported to Excel is creating FAR too many tabs

We're an on prem CSI 9.01.12, Win 2K Server, SQL Server 2014. We have a dataview we're working on, but are experiencing a problem when exported to Excel. The Excel file has 50+ tabs with maybe 30 records a piece on them when it should be a single tab with all the records. We had encountered this issue shortly after our 9.01.01 to 9.01.12 upgrade and the solution there was to disable the report headers for the dataview. We've tried this for the affected dataview, but it isn't working this time.

Has anyone seen this before? Fix?

The spreadsheet is being created from the dataview via background task if that has any bearing.

if it is from the background task, it means you use the report options to output to excel ? if it is correct then see KB 2148272 as this is a toolset issue and not fixed in 9.01.12. We have the same issue on 9.01.11.

Just today I was asked about this exact issue with the EU VAT Report. Apparently not fixed in v10.0.0.472 either.

The spreadsheet isn't coming through corrupted other than the excessive tabs & minimal records. I did manage to find the ticket I submitted to Infor for this, and the response was the same:

-Preview the dataview first, then print it.

-Disable report headers to run the dataview

We've disabled the report headers in the new dataview, but it doesn't appear to be working this time. We're trying to determine why.

Tangent: I can understand Infor not wanting to patch some bugs, but when it's an integral part of your system for reporting I would think you'd want that running flawlessly.

We have an Excel Data Only (Open XML) option available in Report Options, This resolves the problem for us.

We also have had some success doing the same with certain reports. But not our EU VAT Report.

So; Infor support got back to me...... Yup; they refuse to fix it. You want the fix? Upgrade to version 10.

Funny; cause we upgraded from 9.01.01 to 9.01.12 for better software & boy did that not turn out to be true.

1)Make a report option to go to CSV instead of excel. When opening the .csv in excel it will go to one worksheet

Please note when making DV to go to CSV only top level IDO is supported.

You will see lower level IDO data skipped.

You can choose: Single Level option on each of the IDOs in the grid on Dataviews Setup form to combine all the data to one row before it is sent to excel.

2)Another option if you allow the data to be sent to be sent to excel and have multi-worksheets created you can use the Data menu in excel and choose Consolidate to pull the worksheets together

3)Create a macro in excel to combine all worksheets like below:

I'm sorry. This is still an unacceptable solution for me but guess what: we now don't have a choice.

I'm sorry to see that even in 9.01.12 this is still not fixed. We're on 9.01.01 and we'll migrate to v10 eventually, so hopefully this kind of issue will be properly fixed.

For us Dataviews are an interesting tool to run manually and preload/preformat data with saved layouts, for manual reporting; but in 9.01.01 they just cannot be generated automatically or printed correctly because of the totally unsusable formatting and obfuscated options/parameters (we don't even have the multipage/multitab option).
Ill-designed features in Mongoose are a real pain because there's not much we can do about it...
