Questions about OLAPExportHierarchy

Hi guys,

As I start playing with the new export functions, I have some questions:

a) Is it possible to set a column in the target table to a constant value? (for example, the dimension name)

b) What is the best way to capture the relative order of an element within a parent? (for those elements that have more than one parent, and maybe they are the first child in one, but they are the fifth one in another one) Can this be exported?

Dan - a. no. I have suggested the hierarchy name for the future but for now your columns are pretty much fixed.
b. I would suggest exporting the OrderPosition column which should be available for any dimension and should the correct creation order. My preferred export option is to also include parent elements so if you have parallel hierarchies you should see the element twice (but I didn't test this).

Hi Daniel,

for b), I already had a discussion with Support/Development and have created Enhancement Request 79625 to extend the function, to cover the OrderPosition column in the relations table. The ModelingPublishCustomModelToOlap routine would then use this column to build the dimension in exactly the same way as it was exported. You may want to endorse this enhancement request.

Thanks guys. Hopefully these can be added to the export process. That would make it even better and help me solve a few issues I'm currently having.
