Custom cell notes

Hi community,

I am dealing with adding the funtion of custom cell notes to reports. I can add line and reports notes until now but I am looking for add, edit and delete notes from a cell without modify the figure that the cell contains as the estandar Budgeting and Planning reports do. Some one has haved experience with this? Is there an special funtion in App Studio?

Hi,

my preference is to store a comment as a value on a string element, instead of saving the comment as cell note.
so value is stored on measure dimension element "value"

and the comment is stored on a measure dimension element "comment". In self service you can have then the comment presented next to value quite easily.

Recently, I prefer to save the comment with the richt text editor web extension, which saves it as xmla value by using setproperty() get property () function, and additionaly, you can have the user and time stored as additional property of the funciton, in case you need to track who made the comment entry. In the samples, the dialog report is there which you can copy to your project.
For the self service though, it is not that nice to show XMLA comment, so for this purpose i still save the comment in non-xml format on additional measure dimension element.

This is probaby just one of many possible approaches...

Hi Mauricio,

you need a "Measure" Dimension with two elements.
"Value" as Numerical

"Comment" as String element type.

Values are stored on the Value element.

Text values are stored on the comment element next to the value. This can be done with regular formulas cellwrite, setproperty, etc, as you do for values. The coordinates for the text are the same as for the value, just the measure dimension element is different.
In Dependency on the use case, you should just make sure, that if user deletes value on the report, it might be necessary to delete the comment as well.

Maybe worth adding that I think the restriction still exists that for you to be able to write to text elements the dimension (with the string elements you want to write to) needs to be the last dimension specified when the cube is created.
