Changing field in XML File

Hi everyone,

I am relatively new to ION so bear with me here

I am setting up ION to read an XML file from a network server and deliver the BOD to our Syteline server. I have everything working in this regard, however I need to change some attributes in the XML file. There is a single field that is a constant value in the XML that needs to change as its delivered to different Syteline sites. I added a splitter in the Data Flow so that the XML is delivered to each tenant separately. What is the best way for ION to change that particular value in the XML before delivering it to Syteline? I tried using a graphical mapper rule in there but I am very confused on how that works. Is there a better way?

Ryan - It sounds like you are on-premise, so your only option is the XML Mapping. If you were cloud, you would have the additional option of using Python Scripting.

With that said, your request sounds straight forward with the mapper, primarily because you are Mapping from and to the same BOD. Check out the ION Connect Mapping section in the document link: Infor ION Desk User Guide (Cloud). The just of it, is that you bring up the graphical mapper and set the Source and Target BOD to the same thing. You can then map, using the top-level element (in the screenshot below, it is ProcessSalesOrder), from Source to Target. The graphical mapper will automatically map all of the source elements to the corresponding target elements. It will be a one-to-one, which makes this part straight forward.

Once everything is mapped, you can create custom functions or translations for any of the attributes that you need to. I hope this helps!

Awesome. I gave this a go and think I get the gist of it now. Getting some errors on BOD receive in my destination application but I'm still working through the XML formatting. The value does seem to be changing though. Thanks so much!

Excellent! The only thing I noticed was I did not get a middle box after you clicked "Connect to Target" in the function screen. Does that only come up for certain data types?

Hey Ryan,

Since this was a pretty simple mapping, I used the Connect to feature which automatically maps the source data type - aka the constant I added which was a string - to the target defined in the BOD schema (XSD) - a normalizedString. In your case, you're probably dealing with the same source and target datatype so no mapping function was added.

You can build far more complex transformations with the Mapper and the function list you see on the left-hand side. More details in the Mapper documentation
