Moving relational BIFarm-Databases

Hi,

we want to move the BIFarm-Databases (Config, Log, Repository) from one SQL-Server to another.. OLAP-Databases and the farm itself should remain on the existing server - no changes needed here.

Tried the following:

Stop the service controller,on the farm

Backup BIFarm-Databases and restore them on new SQL-Server

Changed the Config-Database in Service-Expert to new SQL-Server

So far no problem, but how can I change the LogService-Database? When starting the service controller the Edit-Button for this in Global Settings in inactive.

As well, when trying to change the repository database in Farm Expert an error is raised when connecting to the new BIFarmRepository in new SQL-Server.

So I reverted everything to the old BIFarm-databases.

Could anybody advise what steps have to be done to move only the relational BIFarm-Databases to another SQL-Server?

Do you mean this chapter in the docs:

Moving farm databases to a different server?

I checked that, but thought, that most of it is not applicable, as I do not move the farm itself. So all the things with connection profiles, master keys etc. should not be necessary when only moving the BIFarm-Databases, right?

maybe, i have not tried to just change the SQL Server.

Just to give you a follow up on this topic in case anybody has the same issue.

Talked to support and obviously right now there is no way for the user to change the connection strings of all databases, especially there is no way to change the BIFarmLog-Database to another server in the UI.

Support has a "magic tool" that allows to change the connection strings for the specific version and built, and within a 30-minutes-session they solved the problem.

Hope that one day in a coming version this is possible from the UI so that support does not have to be involved.
