Rules d/EPM v12

Hi,

I tested adding rules in the MPCMAIN cube (as shown in the image), to allocate values in Other Assets or Other Liabilities according to the sign of the account value, I think it's a simple formula and it only calculates when there are values.

But what happens is that the d/EPM/ OLAP database has a bad performance, and the reports that use this accounts with this rule do expend a lot of minutes to open in AppStudio (and in browser not open).

Do you know of any alternatives, or is there something I am doing that is not correct?

Hi Rui,

first of all, I'd definitely recommend to restrict this rule to "Base" level to avoid unwanted aggregation effects.

Second, the prefetching algorithm might well handle the empty space better than your if clause does. "If" is always a bit performance critical.

Why don't you try this formula:

[BPDACOUNT:'3000'] * if([BPDACOUNT:'3000'] <0, #na, 1)

This will definitely "prefetch" the value of account 3000 using Olap's sparsity handling capabilities. Then you'll either show or not show the value depending on the prefetched value.

I am going to suggest one further enhancement to try - That is to specify as the target just the _LC elements. So suppose EUR is the only currency make the source something like [BPDCURRENCY:'EUR_LC, BPDACCOUNT:'3000D']. If there is more than one currency than add one rule per currency or specify the target currencies as a subset. It will reduce the number of calculations this rule carries out and once the rule has calculated the _LC or local currency amount other rules will translate it. the _LC elements are the ones on which imported or entered values are stored.

In order to optimise the performance and to not use any IF conditions and only at te BASE level, try

[BPDACOUNT:'3000'] > 0*1 + [BPDACOUNT:'3000'] <0*#NA

That avoids the IF so you get the Value if true *1 or Value if FALSE * #NA. I haven't tried *#NA as a multiplier, but you can add stet or multiply by stet so try #NA.
