User Testing Multi Tenant with M3 Analytics

Hi,

We have a number of dashboards outside of M3 Analytics that we are developing. We want users to look at the dashboards/report before we push them to consumer to minimize any changes we may have after. For example, is the flow good. Are all the filters that you need there. What has others done? We don't want to give all the users Birst access, as i believe it needs to have ADMIN access to get the Birst Icon on Mingle. We don't want to create brand new sign ons for every user so they can use birst outside of Mingle.

Should we move them to consumer and just deal with any changes that might need to be migrated again?

You can set up users with access to a Birst space through Mingle without them having any admin permissions inside Birst. In my case, I have production and UAT (user testing) spaces accessible through different icons in Mingle, with different roles granting access to them, and in Birst, the users have relatively minimal permissions

Hmm...We couldn't get the Birst icon to show up in Mingle w/o having BIRSTADMIN rights. Do you know what Mingle Role we would use so they could have that?

I am assuming they don't see it via M3 Analytics Mingle icon

You can create custom roles for each space, and assign them to the spaces. Then give those roles to the desired users

if using birst proper you set up an application in inforOS that points to just the dashboard you want. (admin settings in infor os, then add application)

Under the custom parameters of the application you are adding you set the Identity provider (your birst id) and your space ID

this takes users to a specific space, you can use the module parameter to direct users direct to a dashboard

you then create a role for access to that application and link it to Birst app and when you add users into IFS they get given permissions inside Birst

its a bit fiddly and what I described is by no means a guide on how to do it if you have no idea about such things ! more advice that it can be done .

Suggest you reach out to an Infor consultant, takes about half hour to learn it all

Hi Tina,

depending on the level of comfort and what you actually want to achieve this topic bears multiple levels of complexity.

Just to give some level setting information.

You can add custom roles or existing roles to any application in Ming.le. For instance, you can add the Birst-User (if that's not already the case) or M3AXXXBIRST-User role to the existing Birst Ming.le application. Which would also allow non-admin users to access the Birst application via Ming.le
Just enabling access to an app via Ming.le is not always automagically granting access to spaces in Birst (outside of pre-built spaces)

If you are managing the user's access to the space already manually it might be as easy as allowing them to access the Birst app, by making the adjustment suggested in 1.

If that's not good enough, you have to put in a little more effort:

You'd have to create custom IFS roles that will then be bundled up with Account Groups on the Birst side. The M3A spaces are set up using space groups which is a slightly different concept and btw. cannot be combined on the catalog permission level.
You can then use this account group(s) within the custom space to secure objects and provide access levels to Viz, Dashboard etc. as you see fit.
The IFS integration is then taking care of the mapping of Users with account groups, so you do not have to maintain anything in Birst as far as users go
Create a custom ming.le application. There are two options:
- Use a BIrst ming.le app, similar to what George had described
- Use an Analytics ming.le app (If you're M3AFAB, you can also use M3AFSH to have it separated for instance)

The Ming.le application choice is not only about the app's name. It's also relevant for the type of use case you want to follow.
The Analytics apps are configured to support proper application switching, which is important if you intent to use drillbacks and they're also, by default, set up with the 'isWithinMingle' Parameter set to true which is allowing drillbacks to M3 etc. in the first place.

I have set up a meeting with our admin person. We currently have 3 developers, so i am assuming there would be 3 custom roles if a person needs to review multiple?
