How to connect Data Lake from/using Excel?

Hi All,

I am new to this Infor Data Lake.

I want to know how to connect Data Lake from Excel.

Based on what I gather, it seems there is no direct way to connect Data Lake from using Excel.

Would appreciate if someone can give me an answer on this.

Infor Labs (Platform Technology Group) will be soon publishing the content into the marketplace (https://market.infor.com). It will be called EXCEL API plugin which can send Data to ION via IMS and to Datalake. It can also retrieve the Data from Datalake.

Also please note that Microsoft might drop the support for VBA programming on EXCEL, so if the solution is built today using VBA then its not a futuristic approach. What we have built is using JavaScript as per latest Microsoft docs.

So watch out for this in marketplace soon.

Hey Marcus,

We don't offer an Excel plug-in for Data Lake today. However, several customers have used ODBC:JDBC bridges to establish a connection with it. I'd recommend checking out the Infor Marketplace (https://market.infor.com/) as I know some folks are publishing an aftermarket Excel plug-in soon

You can also call ION API for DataLake from Excel using VBA.
It requires a bit of coding, but the nice thing is that you can call any ION API this way to get data extracted to Excel (or Update back as well of course if this is of interest)

Have successfully done this against both 'On Prem' & 'MT Cloud' environments.

I posted the code that I used to another thread as an example of how you can both authorize the application and how I used the data lake api to export to excel. - The code is in this thread. The idea was simply to code a VBA call to the data lake and build the result (including the headers in Excel).

You have to create a loop to call the API confirming the 'Execution completed' before reading the Data.

Thank you for this information. How can we procure the WebApp .ionapi file needed for authentication? I have looked in the IONAPI section of Infor OS and am not able to determine where to download the correct file.

Hi everyone.
We made a couple of changes to the Add-In, below are the details related to the same.

We introduced Limit and Offset which basically enables the user to download more than 100,000 records from the DataLake.
We are now checking the security roles of the logged in user and depending on these roles the access to various options (To IMS, To Data Lake, From Data Lake) is given to the user.

Hi, I'm attempting to setup the add-in. I followed the setup steps to create the ionapi files and iondesk connections and installed the add in. When I try to access the add-in in excel, I loaded the ionapi file, it seemed to work fine, and try to authenticate. The login window loaded and it said I signed in successfully ... I selected Allow ... but nothing happens. It says it's successful, but the add in sidebar doesn't show authenticated and no information loads in the sidebar.
