LPL question - Unrelated Business Class Field

How do I get the field values from one Business Class over to a user field of an unrelated Business Class?

I would like to get the values of the Credential field from the PositionCredential Business Class over to a user field (UCredential) on the Position Business Class. The problem is the two Business Classes are unrelated.

I believe you should be able to do this by creating a User Relation to tie the Business Classes together.

It looks like you're trying to add a derived field on the Position the returns PositionCredential.Credential. You need a relation from Position to PositionCredential and it looks like there is one delivered relation: PositionCredentialExistRel

Try "return PositionCredentialExistRel.Credential"

"return first PositionCredentialExistRel.Credential"

I made a bit of progress per your suggestion but the field from PositionCredential business Class is actually a list. How can I get the drop down list over to the user field?

In lookin at things, it seems I have to tackle it from a composite form angle? If that is the only way to do it, it will be a difficult change from my view.

Hi Patrick,

It sounds like you want to add a field to the Position business class that will list the related PositionCredential records as drop down, Is that right?

Unfortunately, that might not be possible. You can define a user field with different explicit state values that will be represented as a drop down list on the form, but I don't believe you can create those states based on a relation.

You could define the user field as a persistent field like a PositionCredential and then set the lookup list on the form to be filtered by the relation, that way the user can like the magnifying class and select one of the related values PositionCredential values.

You can select the Named Type Credential when defining the user field.

Octavio - thank you very much , your suggestion was the missing piece.

I've been working in Rich Client and the extended field type is not presented there. I've been reluctant to use Mingle for LPL development ...now I must take Mingle into account.
