ION API Gateway vs SOAP Services ?

Hello,

We need to realize an integration between M3 and an external application that offers API services respecting the SOAP protocol.
Isn't there a particular procedure to follow to declare this application in ION API?

Because our team is having difficulties with this - most likely because it is the first time we have an application to declare in the gateway that is not REST.
I understand that we need to do a special operation with regard to the concept of swagger.

But sorry - this is not an area I'm very familiar with and I can't figure out the purpose of this operation and what it requires as a tool?

I wanted to clarify, There is no issue in registering your SOAP web services in the Infor OS API gateway itself. You can use the wsdl file as the API documentation. And you would be able to call this SOAP web service in API Gateway from your client application, just like you would call any other ION API.

What is not possible is that:

SOAP API documentation through wsdl is not very machine readable to provide a nice list of APIs under an end point/ test it out etc like how a swagger editor allows you to. So if you upload a wsdl documentation while registering your SOAP web service, you will probably see a wsdl dump on the gateway as is. But its more a cosmetic problem. it doesn't block you from accessing this SOAP web service from your own client application.
You cannot directly consume a SOAP API from clients such as - ION Data flow, ION Work flow, ION API Flow, Infor App Designer, Coleman DA Skill builder. These clients only support REST APIs. If your goal is to access a SOAP API from any of these clients, then indeed having a RSET wrapper around it (through your custom Swagger) is the way to go. Another point to note is that, as SOAP API usually requires XML and some of these clients (for example API Flows) are JSON friendly, you may have to manage JSON to XML (or vice versa) conversion using ION Scripting or ION API Gateway transformation policies. Both of these transformation approaches may have been discussed earlier in this forum.

This is a good question Denis, and I a interested as well.

I created a REST API wrapper (calling SOAP protocol in my code instead) site in .Net for this once to be able to easily integrate into ION API, but it would be nice if there's an easy way to handle in ION API.

my developer colleague started converting by tattooing the wsdl file to swagger and making manual adjustments while trying to reproduce a found example. But this is a very rough method especially since the file has more than 5000 lines.
So I can't imagine that there are no other ways and/or tools
