BIRST Enhancement Request - Vote Request

I submitted a BIRST enhancement request that I would like you to take some time to review/vote on. I currently have 3 YES votes but need 10 to achieve the minimum for development review. The enhancement request is centered around the inability to use parameters with a date picker. See the link below for screenshots and further details.

@emeyers , I don't believe your syntax is correct. You have to do a little bit of parsing, but you absolutely can get the user's selections in a Between date picker and use them.

First of all, the expression you mention in your enhancement request is GetPromptValue('DateRange','FAIL'). When you created the Between date picker filter, I assume you started by selecting Date as the "Filter On", then you changed the name of the filter to DateRange. When you have done it that way, you need to reference Time.Date, not DateRange. So it would be GetPromptValue('Time.Date','FAIL').

Here is an example of a Between date picker filter I created as I described here. Note the name of the filter is DateRange, but Filter On is set to Time.Date. If your filter name and Filter On are different, use what's in Filter On when you use GetPromptValue.

Here's an example of some KPI's that use various iterations of the above. You can see the date range picker at the top.

1st KPI has the expression GetPromptValue('DateRange').

2nd KPI has the expression GetPromptValue('Time.Date').

The 3rd and 4th KPI are:

SUBSTRING(GetPromptValue('Time.Date'),1,11)

SUBSTRING(GetPromptValue('Time.Date'),12,23)

If I were going to use that in an advanced filter expression in Designer it would be something like:

[Time.Date]>=DATETIME(SUBSTRING(GetPromptValue('Time.Date','[2023-01-01,2023-01-31]'),1,11)) AND [Time.Date]<=DATETIME(SUBSTRING(GetPromptValue('Time.Date','[2023-01-01,2023-01-31]'),12,23))

In Designer, the prompt is out of scope. So you need to supply a default to getpromptvalue in the same form as what it would be getting from the prompt. I set the defaults to be [2023-01-01,2023-01-31]. You can see this filter works in Designer:

While i will gladly support a whole lot of Enhancements that make life easier, it seems in this case that the support person may not have steered you in the right direction.

Are you within a multi-tenant cloud IPS environment? I've had issues with getting the time functionality to work for Visualizer graphs. It seems like the functionality does not work for our environment.

Can I request that in general, people make use of the ERS system, there are over 100 requests for Birst so I'm sure there are some features you would like. Due to the way the ERS system works, you need to click the ellipsis on the top right and select load all and filter for Birst otherwise it only shows the latest few.

I agree we should start using the enhancement request system and that is why I posted here. Reading through the documentation directly from IPS on how to get enhancements added to the system, they recommend being your own advocate and spreading the word. Without this, enhancements submitted will never get beyond the initial review phase (10 peer reviews).
