API listing todays date / Workflow

Hello! Anybody know if there is an API where i can get todays date as a output in the format YYYYMMDD without using a date as input? I want to compare todays date vs a date connected to a CUGEX field. I know i can get todays date and time from an expression but that doesnt match up with the format in M3..

In addition - to test this API in M3 Metadata Publisher you need to select GENERAL as program. Then select transaction GetServerTime and run it. Then you will see the values.
While GetServerTime is available in every API it does not show that in MDP.

I'm not too familiar with workflows, and this probably seems like overkill, but couldn't you just add script activity to get the current date in python instead of using an API?

    from datetime import date
    current_date = date.today()
    d = current_date.strftime('%Y%m%d')

Hi Henrik, assuming you are on M3 there is in every API a method for that: GetServerTime. It is in MRS001 under GENERAL. But it can be called from any API CRS610MI.GetServerTime or MMS200MI.GetServerTime.

This returns a DATE, TIME, LMTS.

To be honest I am not sure how it exactly works in MT and time zones. If it is really the server or "tenant timezone" or user that makes the call. I assume it is not the latter as my time is one hour off from CET...

When you run the API it will return the current date. In the screenshot you are showing there is just the meta data - the date will be in format YYYYMMDD - exactly the format you wanted.
