Creating Views in Datalake?

Sorry, this is probably a novice question, but I wasn't sure where to start. Are there any resources on the process of creating views in the datalake? I'm just wanting to create a few different views that join a few different tables together.

@danielt you can create a VIEW within the Data Lake by writing a SQL CREATE VIEW statement within Compass. I have an example that outlines how the SQL VIEW should be written,

CREATE VIEW view_name AS

SELECT column1, column2.....

FROM table_name

WHERE condition;

view_name: Name for the View

table_name: Name of the table

condition: Condition to select rows */

For your example you would need to include your JOIN statements and then modify the column names to include the appropriate table name.

For example -

CREATE VIEW view_name AS

SELECT table_name1.column1, table_name1.column2.....

FROM table_name1

INNER JOIN table_name2 ON table_name1.column1 = table_name2.column1

WHERE condition;

view_name: Name for the View

table_name1: Name of the table1

table_name2: Name of the table2

condition: Condition to select rows */

After doing this, you should see a new VIEW added to your list of Views within Compass.Once it appears in this list, then you can run a SELECT query on the VIEW.

I've included an example of one of the VIEWs we created. Hopefully this help!

Diane, i think i tried bringing a 'view' into Birst and do an object based query in connect and it wouldn't let me. Would you agree, or was i doing somethign wrong?

Yes you can reference a Data Lake view in Birst. The objects through either the Analytic Solution provisioned DL connection or Birst Compass driver are referenced though the default schema.

I'm assuming you've verified the view through Data Fabric Compass query tool?

avoid use Inner Join.

Unless You need Outer Joins.
