Image Widget - image not displaying (sometimes) from internal/external URL or even from IDM

hi,

In a workspace, we wanted to have an image which would let user see immediatley which workspace they are on. I know workspaces should be for specific groups and they should know but we have insatnces where a user can access more that one workspace to allow them to see different areas they may cover.

For this requirement I have an image widget with a URL that goes to out internal network (also tried with an extenral URL). This was showing well but someone times it just doesn't appear at all. When I use the same link to go to the URL the image is still where it should be and it just does not show in the Workspace.

I tried to store the image as a document in IDM and having a URL find that. Again worked well, but again sometimes i just does not appear.

Anyone have any idea why this ahppens or foudn the same issue....or does anyone have a way to store an image "locally" to the widget beacuse these things will never change.

Hey Tommy - I believe the reason why you might be seeing the image sometimes is because I believe IDM needs a session initiated first before it can display. I believe after you open a session, the image displays. Have you noticed this behavior? This is a known issue to the team and I believe they are working on a fix. There is also an enhancement coming in October to the announcements widget that will allow for the user to upload an image from there. Also coming in October will be the ability to set background images on a workspace, as well as the ability to add logos and text to the top of a workspace. I think these enhancements will satisfy when you are trying to do in a different way.

Another option in the meantime is to store the image in Mongoose and then you can use a URL to point to the image hosted there.

Thomas, as an Infor Solution Consultant I use the "Published Widget "Image" , i feed it a URL and it seems to work all the time) we change the URL to pick up company logos when we present.... I took a screenshot of the Widget About Information to show the current version that we have deployed ..... The Image URL in this case is

So an external to Infor URL , for a specific customer logo in my example ....

Hi Colin, thanks for responding.

We do almost the exact same thing but with the screenshot/image is to highlight to internal users which workspace they are on with an image of the text.

Version we have is the latest version, same as your info.

both these images are stored in the same location. One shows...one doesnt.

I might go back and redo them, just to make sure. Maybe host them on a different location before i do, just in case something is wrong with the connection to that location (although kind of already tried that by hosting in IDM).

Good to know of the new potentials coming in October.

I will try and find the pattern, re the IDM session. For now it is not a huge issue for us but a nice to have and cleary defines each space. I have set a header name of course but then it is just a blank widget which looks a little weird but not a disaster.

Hi Thomas,

I'm using the image manager in CloudSuite Self-Service Portal for this.

You can upload pictures and copy the link to be used in the image widget.

Hi,

I can confirm that IDM images are not supported. They are protected and cannot be accessed without a session and as such they can't be used with Announcements or Image widget. There is no way to get a publically accessible image from IDM but there is ongoing work to address this. There is no upload support for Announcements in October.

The issue you mention with a URL that goes to your internal network might also be related to if it's protected with a session or not. It needs to be publically available for it to load and many internal network sites have automatic SSO which will work for when you load a site but for security reasons, not when an image is accessed. If you want to check if a link will work I would recommend trying to open a new browser tab in incognito mode and paste the URL that you plan to use in that new tab, but also open the browser dev tools for that new tab before the URL is pased in the address field.

If you see multiple requests, redirectes etc then the browser is doing SSO. In Chrome an incognito tab is opened with :

Windows, Linux, or Chrome OS: Press Ctrl + Shift + n. Mac: Press ? + Shift + n.

DevTools tools:

1) go to DevTools: F12 (click Network tab) or:

2) open the Command Menu: Ctrl+Shift+P

3) type: network, press Enter key
