How to use Context value in Filter

I have watched the videos around how to create a Context message to pass a value from one widget to another and that is clear. What I can't figure out and don't see documented in any examples, is how can I take that value and in the receiving Data Service use that input parameter as the condition for my Filter field. I know it's doable, but requires the right syntax which I have been unable to find or guess to make it work. This seems to be the one very important step that is not documented anywhere or maybe isn't even possible. I am connecting the CSI as the underlying source through the ION API data service in case that matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the receiving widget, I am assuming you selected "filter" to receive the custnum message correct? (see image below).

If so, whatever value is in that message will replace everything that is in your filter input parameter. So say you are sending customer number 1, well that will replace your default value of "CustNum='[CustNumIn]' and ArsummAmtBalance > 0.00" with "1". So, that filter would not work. What you need to do is to hardcode any values you want to be static into the API relative URL (see example below) so that it doesn't get replaced by the context message value. Then in your default value, you can just specify a default customer number (i.e. 1).

Honestly though, the better answer here would be for you to use the new mongoose application wizard. Have you tried using that tool yet?

Hey Joe - if you specify the following I should be able to help you out:

1. I need the name of the IDO you are trying to connect to

2. What value from that IDO you are trying to send

3. What IDO you are trying to specify to receive that message

Also, any screenshots you have would help out.

Here's what I am trying to do high level: I have created a widget with my list of Active Customers and that works fine. I have a second widget which I am using the SLArtransAlls IDO to pull in the open invoices for a customer. If I hard code in a specific customer in the filter, that works just fine too. Then I am trying to pass the CustNum from the Customers Widget to the Invoices widget so that I can use that to filter the invoices to the selected customer. I can't figure out how to make the Data Service work with the passed CustNum context message value. I get how to make the Context Message and define the sending and receiving sides in the widget, but on the receiving side how do I actually use the value that was sent in my filter on the Data Service? Below is a screenshot of the invoice side widget's Data Service.

And at the bottom I also have the CustNumIn Parameter defined as my input parameter that would be used for the setup of the receiving side widget:

Lastly, below is the full string of what I am trying in the Filter expression, and I have tried every other combination I can think of. I thought the [ ] might work because I have seen that used in other API calls. I just don't know how to make the CustNumIn parameter that is getting passed in from the context work within the Filter:

CustNum='[CustNumIn]' and ArsummAmtBalance > 0.00

Ok, I see what you are describing and that makes sense. I was not using the filter field on the receiving widget. I created a new field/parameter called CustNumIn and was passing the value to that, and then trying to figure out how I could use the value of that input parameter within the filter parameter, but it seems like that is not possible. Your way is easy enough and I will do that.

I have not used the new Mongoose Application wizard. Can you point me to details on that? Is it used to create new workspaces/widgets?
