editing / deleting a cube using Relational Modeling / OLAP Modelling

Hi all,

using latest version (2024.09.01) MT environment, and just really looking for best practice around modifying a cube definition in Relational or olap modelling.

i cannot seem to be able to export the information in Relational Modeling and then clear the data and re-import the modified CSV file.

is there any guidelines as to the best practice for this?

Can you please clarify what object you are trying to modify? I modified a dimension yesterday so know that works.

Hi John,

I am trying to add a dimension to an existing cube. This is in MT. In relational Modeling, i need to modify the DEPM_MOD_DIMENSIONINCUBE table - i used to get a reference integrity error when exporting and 'deleting data'.

Is it ok now to do this?

Hi Peter, I think you will have to use SQL scripts, working with the modeling tables.

Adding a dimension to a cube is not supported in the user interface since you'll lose all the values of the cube when publishing.

But you can user achieve it with an INSERT into [DEPM_MOD_DIMENSIONINCUBE]

You may also have to UPDATE the [Order] column of some dimensions so the dimension will appear at the right spot.

To delete a cube, you will have to delete from some tables, in the right order.

DELETE FROM [DEPM_MOD_DIMENSIONINCUBE] WHERE CubeID = 'XXXX'

DELETE FROM [DEPM_MOD_CUBERULE] WHERE CubeID = 'XXXX'

DELETE FROM [DEPM_MOD_PERSPECTIVE] WHERE CubeID = 'XXXX'

DELETE FROM [DEPM_MOD_DIMENSIONINCUBE] WHERE CubeID = 'XXXX'

Then you can delete the cube as such

DELETE FROM [DEPM_MOD_CUBE] WHERE ID = 'XXXX'
