Application Studio Special Format String option in Display Value

Hi,

i'd like to format an hyperblock where element code and description are showed only for base elements. Consolidated should only have description and i'd like to do it using Special Format String option in Display Value to mantains drillable column.

When I try something like:

=IF(ReportVariables.ShowColumnIDName.Text="TRUE";"A1 - C";"C") it works but when I try to add a reference to the sheet like =IF(H1=0;"A3 - C";"C") where H1 show the cardinality i get a sintax error.

Where i'm wrong?

I don't think you can use conditions - like IF() statements to define Special Formats. My slightly ugly solution is to create a new attribute where the value is set to be Code and dash and Caption for base elements and just Caption for C elements. This assumes you have control over the dimension structure. If not one comes up with a way of doing this an ER would be appropriate as your is a use case people other people will hit.

You can use conditions but you cant reference any spreadsheet cells. The spreadsheet doesn't yet exist at the time the hyperblocks calculate so any references wouldn't work anyway. These formulas can only reference variables or other objects. Its the same kind of limitations as using formulas inside list definition.

I would handle the Special Formatting String on the canvas using Conditional Formatting on the cell. You can then add your UID to a new column to the left of the display column. Make the new column width just wide enough to show the expand/collapse icons. Then dynamically create the indentation for each level, but thats easy using the Level Number attribute in combination with the REPT function. The final solution would look something like:

=IF(H1=0; REPT(" ", I1) & "A3 - C"; REPT(" ", I1) & "C")

Where I1 is your Level Number attribute.

you could have one version in the normal cell value and the other version in the display format value. Then use conditional format to trigger the ~ number format to decide which one of them is used.
