"Software Configuration Management
With software configuration management, a developer can modify and test an own revision of a software component. Using a check-out and check-in functionality, a software component is locked for others developers. This method guarantees that no more than one developer can modify the same software component at the same time."
We found out that Software Configuration Management (SCM) is not enabled in the MT Cloud as it is not currently supported.
Please allow to enable Software Configuration Management (SCM) in the MT Cloud.
Business Impact
The missing SCM functionality impacts activity-based development, where the components must be checked out. However, the changes are made directly in the Activity VRC instead of the Private VRC. It is not possible to undo the check-out. An unwanted change has to be checked in but can then be reverted by restoring the component via the local history that LN Studio keeps. This process is unpleasant compared to the on-premise way with SCM enabled.
Another issue is that there is no component revision history. With SCM enabled, this is created when ending a development activity and when the components are copied to the Project VRC. While code changes could be marked to compensate for it, this taken-away functionality feels like a step backward in LN software development.
