Why isn't spacing being cancelled when I add "\" between characters in LPL?

In LPL, whenever I add "\" between characters in LPL, spacing is still occurring when I do not want it to. Please see screenshots attached. I can see these slashes are used to cancel out space casing in other LPL code, so why isn't it working when I incorporate them to my code?

Basically, my expected output should be "J0200" with the added "\", but it still keeps adding a space between the J and 0200.
