How can I replace text in a string in LPL?

We are moving our invoice imaging application to new servers which will cause the URL to change. Is there a way to replace a part of a string with another? I'd like to update the server name component of the InvoiceURL field with the new server name.

There are a few different ways you could go about it.

(I'm going to assume you are talking about updating the InvoiceURL field on the PayablesInvoice business class but the ideas apply regardless.)

#1. You could use ISD to query the key fields & ImageURL. Then use Excel's search and replace to change the hostname of your old server to the new server's name.

#2. You could create an IPA process flow to accomplish the same thing. Use a LMQuery node to iterate over all the records in JavaScript, update the URL, and then a LMTxn node to write it back.

#3, You could use Configuration Console to create either an instance action (simplest) or a set action. At first blush LPL doesn't seem to have tools for string substitution, but it's got enough that you can get the job done. I would tackle it (in LPL) by doing a for each InvoiceURL split on "/" and using a local counter to keep track of the number of iterations and, on the 3rd loop (counting from one) append your new hostname rather than each.

Assuming this is largely a one time exercise, I'd tackle it using ISD (if I were doing it).

I forgot to say, in #1, that after doing the search & replace you'd do an ISD Upload to update FSM. :-)

Thanks for the suggestions. The for-each in the LPL is interesting. I was also playing with using a concatenation to do "https://newserver" + InvoiceURL[11:1000] or wherever the end of the server name was.

It is a one-time thing (or at least not an often thing as it only happens when we do server upgrades every couple years). I was leaning away from ISD or IPA since there are over a million records in that business class.

Given the volume of data you might want consider using dbexport / dbimport instead of ISD.

With the dbexport ouptput there are multiple ways to could modify the CSV data, ie. shell scripting, etc., and then upload the corrected data view dbimport.
