ION API config execute script

Hello,

Has anyone created an ION API call to execute an EPM staging table script to run on a schedule.

I am having trouble finding documentation that shows how to create the ION process. I don't know where to create the initial ION action, I assume API Flows, but have been struggling with setting that up.

I have tested the api call via API gateway, available api's, INFOR d/EPM API. And that works and I can see that the script in staging ran.

This really seems like it should live in the Infor documentation, however, when it references example below, I am not clear where I should create that.

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, this is something that took a bit of doing the first time around. Youre right, it should reside in an ION Workflow.

Create a workflow using the API node. Depends on what version of EPM youre on, your processes may show up under BI Application Manager.

Ive also had issues with custom processes not showing up until I went and refreshed the BI/ApplicationEngine API.

Your screenshot is showing the AppEngine function that runs table load queries. If you were to include this in an AppEngine script then, as Matt indicated, you'd need to refresh the BI/ApplicationEngine IONAPI endpoint for it to be available.

If you don't need to run it from a custom AppEngine process, but just want to schedule a table load query, then you can do it via the BI/Modeling endpoint called from an ION Workflow. To schedule it you need to create a Schedule for that Workflow. The initial steps within ION are something like this:

1	Navigate to Monitors & Workflows \| Workflows and Add New Workflow
2 + 3	Select and drag an API object onto the workflow diagram.
4	Click to Select the ION API Operation
5	Select the BI Application Manager Product
6	[optional] enter text to filter the list of available operations
7	Select the ExecuteTableDataLoadQuery operation

You then need to enter appropriate Request Parameter values, and test it. When you do so, in addition to the expected changes to target table, entries should appear in the EPM Application Logs in EPM Administration.
The Workflow Schedules screen is the 2nd item beneath Workflows one used in previous steps - there are various options to get the frequency you need.

If you're using it to run queries on the Datalake then, depending on the number of tables being refreshed and the frequency of scheduling, you could quickly burn through your allocated "Data Fabric Compute" resource; every query uses at least 2.5-3.5 seconds of it (even when returning an empty set).

Initially, I was attempting to create the API call from ION>Connect>API Flows. However, I could not resolve the API configuration error, when selecting the search button to locate the modeling API.

So, I attempted to create a workflow that is using the API function, following Nathan's example, and that had the same issue, where the search feature returned an API error.

As Matt suggested, I did refresh the metadata on the BI/Modeling endpoint within the Infor d/EPM gateway. The screen shot was a reference to the Infor documentation and not an indication of what I am trying to do.

What I want to do is schedule a daily staging script for a custom d/EPM application, which is our budget and planning application. The staging script is a non-sql script that executes other scripts, that source data from the data lake, models the data via the dimension tables, then commits the data to the OLAP via mapping execution.

I can execute the script via the "Try It Out" button on the API gateway documentation, providing the necessary application name and script name. I can successfully run the same command in Postman in our non prd tenant.

I know I have the required IFS security roles.

Seems like this should be a simple task, that somehow is becoming a PITA😒.

Does the Service Account you're using to test the API call from the Workflow have adequate Security Role(s) assigned? If no, amend it and try again.

If yes, then my next guess would be there's some subtle mistake in what you've done or there's some strange issue with your tenant (a broken service or whatever); either way, if you create an Incident then Infor Support should be able to help investigate further.
