Hi,
We are currently operating on-prem and are in the process of migrating to the cloud. Today, our MRP is executed using RPS999, but once we move to the cloud we will need to run MMS999 instead.
A major concern is that MMS999 does not provide the same filtering options as RPS999, which creates challenges for our supply chain team and disrupts our current processes.
I am seeking guidance on whether adjustments to configuration details—such as specific item/warehouse settings, planning policy settings, or other parameters—could help us replicate our current process and achieve a similar outcome when running MRP in MMS999 in the cloud.
Any insights, best practices, or examples from others who have gone through a similar transition would be greatly appreciated.
Current process
- Firm Finished goods MOs for several weeks, usually 3 to 4. This is a manual process determined by capacity planning in Excel against customer firmed & planned orders and forecast.
- Run MRP for finished goods and remove the planned MOs created within the firmed horizon.
- Run Optimity (demand planning software) “MRP” process that firms WIP for a predetermined period, usually 1 week.
- Run WIP M3 MRP to consume/remove planned MOs that Optimity has firmed
- Optimity will not create between 50 – 100 planned MOs usually due to planning rules altered by the planner as needed, but most often for the small qtys that have been “missed or shorted” today for tomorrow.
- These are assessed and either released, changed and released or many are deleted.
- Finally, MRP is run for Packaging and ingredients.
I can see a solution for the FGs, and that might be to remove any manual forecast for the firmed horizon, therefore no planned MOs for FGs would be generated within the horizon.
I cannot see any way around the WIP. Placing things like planning time fences just pushes the demand out and makes any needed replanning impractical.
Finally, our recipes have many packaging and ingredients that are backflushed with waste levels. These need to be regularly stock checked & adjusted. We therefore run MRP nightly to recreate planned POs and DOs to move product between warehouses.
If you do nightly runs, this will exacerbate the WIP issue to daily instead of weekly.
Thanks
