U.S. employers, particularly in healthcare, often hire international employees who do not receive a Social Security Number (SSN) until after their start date. Since going live with Multi‑Tenant Payroll in GHR (January 2026), there is no way to pay an employee without an SSN entered in the system.
I am curious to know if other companies have encountered this and what their solution is to 1) ensure the employee can get paid, and 2) ensure that benefit contributions are attributed to the correct employee.
I just submitted an enhancement request that reads, "Add a checkbox or flag such as “Does Not Have SSN” that allows payroll processing while assigning a system‑generated, non‑valid, unique dummy SSN behind the scenes until the real SSN is entered."
