How to set a timeout for running AppEngine processes in MT

Hi,

Does anyone know how to set a timeout for the execution of AppEngine processes, for example, a maximum of 1 hour, for any AppEngine process in the MT environment?

Ideally, this configuration should be per application, but if that's not possible, it should be for all applications in one environment.

I'm not aware of any such settings. You can see long running processes by going to Dashboards > Farm Administration > Application Engine Processes, and can stop them from here.

You can launch long running operations into the background by using the AsyncStartProcess function, check the status using AsyncGetProcessStatus, and stop the process using AsyncCancelOperation or AsyncForceKillOperation.

I understand the logic, but these are processes that normally take a few seconds or 2 or 3 minutes.

However, sometimes the client makes a mistake or tries to load too much information at once (a file with 400k rows), and we can't predict when we would have to use AsyncStartProcess/AsyncCancelOperation.

For now, we are using Dashboards > Farm Administration > Application Engine Processes to cancel long-running processes.

I couldn't find anything that can monitor how long processes are taking to run, nor any setting that can set a limit. If you have particular processes that potentially might run for a long time, you could write something in those processes that self-terminate if they exceed a certain time limit, or test record counts before performing the operation such as a data load.

"In the current MT EPM platform there is no supported way to configure a hard execution timeout for AppEngine processes, neither per application nor for the whole environment. Runtime limits are controlled by internal platform/database timeouts which are not tenant‑configurable."

The solution is create, like you said, a process to check the time of execution of a process and self-terminate if they exceed a certain time limit.
