Calculated Elements in Application Studio

Hi,

I was experimenting a bit with calculated members in Application Studio (including slices). I usually prefer rules, but since I’m working with a fairly heavy data model, I’m considering lightening the calculations using calculated members instead.

Is it possible to build MDX rules similar to the base elements type OLAP rules that perform the calculation only at the leaf level, avoiding the effect of semi-additive measures on totals/subtotals?

Hi Alberto, you can certainly use the IsLeaf MDX function to find out if any element is a base-level element. But what you can't do in the MDX calculations, is to calculate something on leaf level only and have the results aggregated over the dimensions. This is something that can be done only in the database, meaning using rules, not on the frontend side.
