Why a finished good has demand driven by customer orders but not its components?

Hello,

I have several finished that have demand, driven by their customer orders, but this is not seen on their components. Why does this happen and how can I fix it? I want the customer orders to drive demand for all the BOM, not only for the parent/top assembly.

Do you have the Accept Requirements field ticked against all the Items? Do you have the Pass Requirements field ticked against the Manufactured Items?

Yes, I have. The BOMs are correct too, I don't see where this issue is coming from, but I do believe that this has to be with BOM explosion, because the components are not receiving demand but also the flags you mention are checked. Any thoughts of how this can be fixed?

It is the Accept Requirements field which controls whether this items is planned.

The Pass Requirements field controls whether the Components of the Item are planned.

The Phantom Flag adjusts the behaviour of the Item to only plan it if it is an end Item but the Item's Accept and Pass Requirements flags will still apply.

If you have the Items correctly set then it should plan correctly. You could try running APS Resync All and then APS again.

I would suggest checking whether any of your Items have Accept Requirements unticked. (Put the Filter on, tick and then untick Accept Requirements, and then run the filter.)

I would suggest checking whether any of your Manufactured Items have Pass Requirements unticked. (Put the Filter on, in the Source field select Manufactured and then tick and then untick Pass Requirements, and then run the filter.)

I would suggest checking Planning Detail for each Item and checking whether the expected demand is shown.

If this still doesn't work, screenshots of the Engineering Board for the top level Item and screenshots of the Advanced Planning tab for the Item which isn't planned and also of the Panning Detail form (grid section) for both the top level and the Item which isn't planned would help.

Thank you for the follow up, I see that everything is OK in matter of Accept and Pass Requirements check boxes, but I still do not see demand of the purchased part. Please see below for the screenshots you requested.

Hi on the screenshot for item 805677 the Accept Requirements field is not ticked. This is why the requirements for this Item are not planned. If you tick this field and re-run APS, it will be planned.

I would suggest you Filter for any Items which do not have Accept Requirements ticked - with the Filter in Place tick and then untick Accept Requirements and run the filter. Tick Accept Requirements for all Items.

I would also add that from your screenshot for Item 805677 it has a Time Fence Rule of "No Time Fence". Infor recommend that all Items have a Time Fence Rule of "Lead Time".

I would suggest you filter for Items where the Time Fence Rule is "No Time Fence" and then use Replace Value in Collection (from the Edit Menu to update them to "Lead Time".

Hello, Paul.

It is my understaning that:

Manufactured items should have "Pass Requirements" to let demand pass to the components.
Components/Purchased items should have "Accept Requirements" in order to receive demand explosion.

In function of this, PN 805677 is a manufactured item (sub-assembly) and that is why it is on "Pass Requirements" and not on "Accept Requirements", since it is a manufactured part. Should it have the "Accept Requirements" flag also even though it is a manufactured item?

Also, we have performed a lot of testing and we have verified and discarded:

BOM structure.
Routing.
Quantities and effective dates.
"Stocked" flags.
"Phantom" behavior.

Everything is correct at data level, this might indicate us that APS is not performing full component-level explosion.

If we look at our "Planning Parameters" form we see that our CSI version doesn't have to option to see and/or enable detailed material planning, component demand explosion and pegging, yet it has an "Advanced APS" tab where "Planned Mfg Supply Switching" and "Job & PS Supply Switching" are on, we think that if we uncheck this fields, APS will behave correctly.

Please let me know your comments.

Yes, your Manufactured Items should have both Accept and Pass Requirements selected in order for the Job Order to be planned AND the components to be planned. The reason why the Item 805677 is not receiving demand is because Accept Requirements is not ticked.

In my view ticking Accept Requirements against your manufactured Items will result in all your Manufactured Items been planned.

I don't think that these parameters are required but here is a little information about them.

Planned Mfg Supply Switching is not generally recommended. it is only intended for specific planning scenarios.

Job & PS Supply Switching allows APS to reallocate on-hand inventory and job supplies to short-term demands which may have been satisfied by later job orders.

Got it. Should the parent need to have the "Pass" and "Accept" requirements flag also? and all, top level, MFG parts and purchased parts the "stocked" flag?
