GS1 Digital Link QR codes vs GTIN-only QR – support in Infor WMS
We are currently preparing for the GS1 Sunrise 2027 requirements, where QR codes may contain different types of data:
- A GS1 Digital Link (URL-based)
- Or a plain GTIN (without a full GS1 element string)
In our environment, this is the first time we are working with this type of barcode setup.
Context:
- QR codes may contain either a URL or just a GTIN
- No traditional GS1 element string is guaranteed
- We expect scanner configuration to play an important role in how the data is interpreted and sent to Infor WMS
- We are using two different scanner types with configurable output formats
- WebRF cannot be used to validate this scenario, as it does not support this format
Our questions:
- Does Infor WMS support handling:
- QR codes with GS1 Digital Link (URL)
- QR codes with only a GTIN (no element string)
- Is it recommended to normalize this at scanner level (e.g. convert to GS1 element string before sending)?
- Are there known best practices (scanner configuration vs middleware vs custom logic in WMS)?
- Has anyone implemented a similar setup successfully, and how is the data passed into WMS?
Any insights or experiences would be highly appreciated.
