Error on File Connection Point for custom XML

I'm getting an error when I'm mapping a BOD to a custom XML (error below).  The custom XML is set up with a file template with file type of "Text" and a format type of "XML".  The custom BOD for the XML is called GTDMN.  I have verified that the XML is well-formed and matches the format of the sample used to create the BOD.

Has anybody seen this error and have any idea of how to fix it?

com.infor.ion.container.common.exception.ServiceContainerException: Unable to retrieve content of message Start Tag for GTDMN not found

This looks like some issue with the message Start tag of GTDMN BOD. The message tag should be of the format <GTDMN xmlns….>
