Create Sales Order from CSV file using ION

Hello ION Gurus,

I need to create sales orders from the CSV file using ION. How do I determine the file structure for the required fields? I can write a program in LN to read the file and create orders using DAL. But not sure how to proceed using ION. I appreciate any help in this regard. Thanks.

Use MeC to tranform XML into BOD and after use ION.

You can also use ION without MeC.

The structure of csv file must be defined in Flat (MeC) or in ION.

What version of ION are you currently running?

Depending on the direction of the flow, you can use a combination of the File Templates feature as well as the ION Mapper.

If you need to create a CSV out of a SalesOrder BOD, you can do the following:
1) Using File Templates in ION, create a custom BOD (e.g. "MySalesOrderCSV") with a flat structure that defines all of the elements to be used in your CSV file
2) Save and generate the BOD Metadata to the ION registry
3) Open the ION Mapper (v12+ of ION) and define your SalesOrder BOD as the source document and MySalesOrderCSV as the target
4) Graphically define your mappings from source to target that will let you pick which elements to appear where

5) Create/update your File Connector to use the new MySalesOrderCSV definition and define the parameters for publishing as a CSV file
6) In your document flow, add a mapping step after the application connection point generating your SalesOrder BOD
7) In the same flow, add a file connection point that will take the MySalesOrderCSV BOD and convert it to a CSV

That's it in a nutshell. You can shortcut this process and omit File Templates as a step if you want to write your own XSLT code to do the transformation for you. You can also reverse the steps to take a CSV file and map that to a canonical SalesOrder BOD format.

If the file is of a single format, the the outline that Mike provided is the first approach. Here are some other design considerations.

If the file is multi formatted then you would likely want to use a script.

Both approaches result in a BOD being generated, with 1 or more objects in them depending on how you design it. This BOD would be one of the standard OAGIS process BODs that Infor products support (such as SALESORDER, ITEMMASTER, INVENTORYMOVEMENT, JOURNALENTRY....) which is outlined in the documentation for your Infor Product.

If you generate multiple per file, you can then use splitter to separate them into individual BODs. Then flow that to your inbound endpoint to be consumed into the application.

If you have a bit more specific questions on approach or blockers, we can guide you along. If you have a specific sample file format for a transaction, we could build a step by step recording over that.
