Archiving with version control using IDM Output Management

Is there any possibility to use the version control when archiving M3 printouts in IDM when the documents are genererated through IDM Output Management? If we, for example, print an order acknowledgment which is archived, it is created as a new document for each printout. Instead we would want to archive it as versions of the already existing order acknowledgment for that order.

When using StreamServe and StreamServeAdapter to archive the document in IDM there is such a setting available,

Unfortunately, there is no automatically way of creating a new version of a document. All documents created with IDM Document Output are stored as new document. In your code it would be possible to search for an existing document, and if it exists do the following:

1. Download the newly created document created by Document Output

2. Check out the older version of the document

3. Upload the newly created document as a new version of the older document.

4. Check in the document

5. Delete the document created by Document Output

Thank you for the reply. The archiving is a standard automated process so I have not made any custom code for this.

I have added an enhancement request since I think this is a functionallity that will be required if using IDM as an archive for printouts from M3.

Just a qustion related to this

If example you create your document via Document output from M3 automated when created.

Exampel a Purchase order PPS601PF

Purchase order print will be stored in IDM -

If then you for some reason have to make a copy of the orginal - the copy will overwrite the Original with a new version

and then we will have same same situation you will in reation information se latest version and it will be the Copy version with warter mark Copy

Is there a possibility to see the orginal version as well ?

Instead of creating a new version of the document you could create a new document with the same key attributes and then view all documents in the related information context application. There is also a feature called related documents that could be used to group several documents together that is also supported by the related information context application.

If you always want to show the original, I also think each printout needs to be stored as separate documents and not as versions. To display the different version you need to open the document in IDM and go to the versions tab. I would want to archive to IDM in different ways depending on the printout. Some of them as versions of the same document and some of them as separate documents with the same attributes.

It sounds like an enhancement request is the way to go. What you are trying to achieve is certainly possible because it's exactly how the standard integration between Cloudsuite Industrial and IDM is set up. If I reprint a PO from CSI, the IDM Document Workflow passes the pdf file with the same attributes as the original. When you search IDM for the PO, you see the latest version, but if you check the History tab, you can see the original and any other reprints in between.
