AVERAGE USE AND MATERIAL PLANNING

Dear All

We have been struggling with forecasting in Visual since 2006. The time bucket system does not work well and the whole process takes us days. Recently we have discovered DDMRP. This is third party software which essentially predicts usage of every component we want to keep in stock by reference to a daily average usage (based on past usage). I have tried the Lilly Works software and it is very good but, being cloud software hosted from America, we are having performance issues.

Is anyone else planning their material requirements using average daily use? Is there any way this can be done using Visual?

I am interested to see what type of responses come from this. It sounds like you are further along in the journey of forecasting than we are. We are a contract manufacturing firm and have adopted PowerBI as our BI platform for reporting and analytics such as this.

We are now using DDMRP from Lilly Software which is based on average daily use of parts and risk profiles. It is working very well. We no longer run MRP in Visual and I would estimate we are saving 50 man weeks of time every year. We are also finding it easier to keep enough stock without having too much.

Caleb, I'm really struggling to use this site to correspond with you. The links from the emailed messages do not take me to the conversation and then I can't find it! I would love to tell you about our journey in trying to run forecasting and advanced MRP. There are numerous things about the Visual MRP program which make it very hard work to use.
