Hi, I am wondering what other organizations are using for their Materials Technicians to deliver goods to the departments.  Is anyone using motorized equipment for delivery? If so, what?

I am also interested if you are using a platform truck similar to the image below, do you have any documented standards for staff on how high to stack?

The motorized question really depends a lot on your facility - long distances... inclines... can the floor handle the weight... etc. I'm sure you probably have motorized pallet jacks - are those ever taken out of the warehouse for deliveries?



I've worked some places where we needed motorized mules, and trailered 2 or 3 flat bed carts the half-mile or so from warehouse to elevator. They aren't cheap, and do require maintenance (those batteries can get expensive), so you really need to evaluate the cost/benefit.



As for stacking height, we always used the handles as a general guide. Of course, if it's a few cases of styrofoam cups, a case that falls isn't going to hurt anyone (or necessarily damage the cups), but glass IV bottles are a different story
