XRL - Add In on RDS

I seem to be having any issue, where I have installed XRL on an RDS. Installed as Admin and followed the XRL Installation Guide Installing XRL on a terminal Server or Citrix (Page 12).

Logged in as Admin and XRL works with no problems.

Get one of the users to login and the Add-in doesn't appear. Checking the Com-Add in, which is shown but unticked. Tick the option and the add in still doesn't appear.

Any ideas?

Microsoft office profiles are per user if the user does not have sufficient rights to write the entry for the XRL add-ins to the registry this happens.

I would personally chose to elevate the users permissions temporarily just to get the add-in on then take the permissions away.

Hi, we have had this several times on Terminal servers & hosted environments & only recently got to the bottom of what could be the most reliable fix.

Like yourselves we install it as the Domain Admin, get XRL to work, then sign in as a standard user. We normally leave a shortcut to the ExcelAddminRemoveAdd.exe file on everyone’s desktop as they MUST run this once

We have seen this work for say 7 out of 10 users. Some sites all users, but a lot of sites it’s a bit hit and miss for it to work for everyone

We have been reassured by the IT company that all users have identical windows profiles.

With full permission added to the registry key ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeExcelAddinsInfor Query and Analysis Add-in – still no joy

The recent fix:

What we noticed was that even though full permission had been added to the reg key, the load behaviour was still set to 2. Even if you manually changed this to 3 & had regedit open, as soon as you opened Excel it was putting it back to 2. This is Excel telling itself not to load the addin for that particular user

The only way to get it to work was by EXPORTING a working users key & IMPORTING it (this is from HKEY_USERS). This resolved it for every non working user
