When dealing with configurable products, how do you manage pricing and descriptions? We've been using a single part number per model and then manually modifying descriptions and pricing for quotes and sales orders based on the options within that unit. The key point with this question is that we are building units to inventory (make-to-stock). So we may show (5) part ID 123's in stock but each one may be configured differently which means different description and pricing.
We currently manage these units outside of VISUAL on spreadsheets to keep track of what we have to sell from inventory. We're looking to bring this information back into VISUAL. Is there a way to price and/or describe a part ID based on trace ID?
Would a unique part ID for each configuration be our only solution? The problem with this is the number of different part ID's that would be required to handle all the different configurations. We are just not starting to work with Experlogix which may be part of the solution.
Additionally, we would like a way to track the key options within each configuration to help with better forecasting. For example, a comparison of how many of each option was sold over the last 12 months and on average how many days did it sit in inventory before being sold? How many sales did we lose by not having a certain configuration available?
