Login user

Hi,

We are on visual 7.1.2 running on a terminal server. This week, we had for the first time reach the maximum user connected at the same time. We think that some people leave Visual open when they stop use it. Do any of you know if we can put a timer on Visual to kick out people after 15 minutes with no activity?

I'll take a stab at this. There is a BizTech (Channel Partner) ERP add on program called VizManager that is quite nice as you can set different users to have different time outs(we used it until we went to 7.0.0). Check KB 1877266 on how to set up something similar in Visual it's self or even Incidents 13885478 & 11224660. There are exempt programs (like Planning Window) which will remain open until SYSADM closes them or the user logs back into Visual.

Interval is set in seconds

Sequence is how long can be in without activity, this is set in 30 min intervals.

You add this to 1 sql.ini file.

We too are running in a terminal server, farm server to be exact, environment. For us, the biggest problem was users closing out of all windows except the main menu. We set up SQL a SQL job to run every 15 minutes that will terminate the user if they only have the menu window open and its been more than 30 minutes. Note this will not terminate their remote desktop connection, you'll need to handle that through group policy.

If you wanted to run a similar statement that kicks all users who appear inactive, keep in mind that the LAST_ACTIVITY field of the LOGINS table only gets updated when a user selects Save inside a window. So they could be actively browsing records but the LAST_ACTIVITY field will not have been updated. For us kicking users who were only in the menu window resolved our license issue.

If you want to check and see if your problem is similar to ours where users are only in the menu and inactive, run the following statement

Select * from LOGINS

WHERE USER_ID IN

(SELECT USER_ID

FROM [VMDD].[dbo].[LOGINS]

GROUP BY USER_ID

HAVING COUNT(*)=1)

AND DATEDIFF (MINUTE, LAST_ACTIVITY, GETDATE()) >30

AND PROGRAM_ID='MENU'

If you want to kick these users, execute the below statement, or set up as a scheduled SQL job.

DELETE FROM LOGINS

WHERE USER_ID IN

(SELECT USER_ID

FROM [VMDD].[dbo].[LOGINS]

GROUP BY USER_ID

HAVING COUNT(*)=1)

AND DATEDIFF (MINUTE, LAST_ACTIVITY, GETDATE()) >30

AND PROGRAM_ID='MENU'
