Allow end user to run an IPA on demand

I have an IPA that I need to allow a specific end user to be able to run on demand. I know there is a way to do this with Design Studio. Is there any other way to allow an end user the ability to run a IPA on demand? For example, can I create a shortcut or something in the Rich Client to give the user the ability to kick off only this specific IPA? Or is there a way to make a call to run an IPA from a webpage outside of the Lawson application? Is there some Infor documentation I can review that steps through this? I feel like I'm missing something here that I should already know. Any help is appreciated!

We are just starting to try and replicate the S3 triggers in GHR, but I was able to successfully do this with some build in Rich Client. Specifically:

Note that I created all of this in the Employee business class, just to give it somewhere to live.

1. Create User Field. In our case, we need to be able to allow the user to specify a date when they execute triggers, so I created a user field (CMCTriggerDate).

2. Create a custom action (I used User Request Action), here is the LPL code for the action:

CMCTriggerAction is a Create RequestAction

default label is untranslatable:"TestTriggerFlow"

subject is HCM

request action process is CMC_TestEmail

request action linkback webapp is Administration

Parameters

Param_CMCTriggerDate is Date

3. Create a User Form, this is what the user will see, with a button to click to execute the action. Here's the LPL:

If you only have access to S3 you can use the WFWK screen. The service and title must match a service and description in Landmark. Once entered click add and a work unit is created. This would also allow users to input criteria if you have that set up as well. (You could also probably perform a fiddler trace on this and create a URL that users could click to start a process).

I've also heard of others creating a file channel and users can place a file in a directory to manually start a flow.

You can use a 'user channel' under Channels Administrator in IPA. This allows a user to send an email to trigger a flow. I have a few set up and its pretty slick. User just sends an email to an email you specify with a subject like like "Start yourflowname" - this triggers that flow.

That sounds interesting. Do you have instructions on how you set it up and what version of Landmark are you on?

I too agree this User Channel sounds interesting. I don't have a "User Channels" tab in Channels Administrator in IPA though. I am on Landmark 10.1.1.57. Are you on a newer version?

If the end-user has access to Lawson Portal, you could create a top-level bookmark with a URL string to trigger the IPA flow. They easily access the bookmark from Portal bookmark to kick off a workunit.

Good to know, Russ! Thanks! @kingdoeserp Thank you for the tip! That is exactly what I want to do. I have it all working except when I click on the bookmark (or paste the URL into a browser) I first get a login screen and log in before the IPA will run. How do I pass authentication so my end user doesn't need to log in there? Do I need to add it to my http call? Is there some additional Configuration in IPA that I need to create in order to pass this authentication (perhaps under "main" or "system")?

I don't believe there's any additional requirement or config required in IPA/RichClient config. But perhaps the resource needs to be added as an IPA user in Rich Client just in case. A template link for the bookmart is shown below.

"https://<your_ipa_server_fullname>/bpm/trigger?triggerType=ProcessAsync&triggerName=<processflow_name> &dataArea=TEST10&workTitle=<work_title>"

Adding the necessary details (some which you can get from the workunit screen) e.g full server name, flow name, work unit etc. to the string above and plugging in the Portal bookmark you create should work. You probably want to set access for the bookmark to "A" as well. As long as the user is logged into Portal, and clicks the link. The output should be "workunit xxx has been released successfully for processing" or some verbiage of that nature.
