IPA 10.1.x and Amazon Corretto 1.8

I'm sure we are not the only ones in this boat, but due to Oracle charging for Java we are required by our management to remove all oracle java from workstations, servers etc and go to an open source version. We have landed on Amazon Corretto 1.8 since Infor and Kronos have both indicated that is their plan as well.

So far, everything in our Lawson sphere has been working fine on Corretto 1.8 except for IP Designer, it will not install.

I am getting the following errors attempting to install IPDesigner on a workstation running Amazon Corretto 1.8. The compatibility matrix seems to indicate that java 1.7 OR 1.8 are valid options. Any tips or suggestions on getting this to work?

We are going to move to Amazon Corretto 1.8 as well, but not until we upgrade IPA to v11. I'm pretty sure IPA v10.x will only run on Java 1.7, not 8.

HerzfeldtJ, that was our plan as well, but we are being pushed faster on the front than we want to move on the Lawson upgrade side :-)

You may want to fully expand the path of %JAVA_HOME% in your Path environment variable. Some facilities do not re-iterate the expansion of environment variables within another environment variable.

Thus replace %JAVA_HOME% in the Path variable with your fully qualified JAVA_HOME path.

You should have better results.

I updated %JAVA_HOME% in the path to "C:Program FilesAmazon Correttojdk1.8.0_242;" and that did not make a difference with the installer. I'm guessing that it just will not install with a 1.8 version of the JDK...

This is something that is simple and it probably won't work.

Have you tried taking out the spaces in the path?

For the record.

Landmark Environment 10.1.1.x is not supported with Java 1.8; if the 10.1.1.x environment gets upgraded to Java 1.8 problems will occur.

If it is just IPA Designer 10.1.1.x; that code will likely run in Java 1.8. However, to install it you are going to need to know how to modify an executable jar file; and alter the perl script which runs to validate the java installation.

I believe its a fairly easy change with 7-Zip; open the jar, find the validate-java.pl script and modify the jar to look for "openjdk version 1.x" instead of "java version 1.x"

I believe the current version of the designer handles the version change for corretto just fine; I am using it on my own laptop with the designer only for the purpose of testing for development in case changes are required. That's been about 6 months now without issue.

More Importantly: Java 1.8 used with 10.1.1.x would place that piece into "Unsupported Configuration" ... if an issue is experienced and the problem points to an issue with Java that would fall outside the scope of support.

Check your c:IPDesigner folder, do you see several IPA versions ?
