We manage different brands, we have M3 and I don't understand why our consultant suggest to use business area.
which is the standard field to identify brand for a product?

My suggestion is to add your brand as an attribute in ATS010 so that you can select the brands against the item(Product) during PO entry.

It depends on how will you use the brand in your process?!
There are more than 10 fields could be used as brand
But what is the use of the brand, the answer of that question will lead you to the right selection.
May be use product line, product group, Procurement group, item group, distribution group technology, group technology class, business area, environmental group, specifications, search group
We use product group for brand.
Customer specific fields which you can use OKFRE1 for customer order entry.
