Android devices for MSCM

We got the end of enhancement support last week for MSCM - Windows mobile devices as well as the end of maintenance agreement for MSCM v10. We're currently on v10 and are using MC55 handheld devices but want to order an Android device so I can configure and test with it. I'm curious to know what Android devices are being used, and with what success? Is there a preference? And is anyone using Android devices with MSCM v11.2?

We're using the TC51s but Emkat has several Androids. We're only v10.1.8

Hi Randy - We moved to TC51's from MC56 devices in September of 2019. We are on 10.1.8.28 of MSCM and we are looking at moving to cloudsuite by end of next year.

The biggest issue we had with the switch to the android devices were the differences in the login function if you use SSO and there are a few kinks in general being worked out by INFOR in the android MSCM functionality. Overall - I think it was a good move. I would HIGHLY suggest letting your end users see and touch and test with the new devices as it is very different than what they are used to with the MC devices. Even though it's much like a phone - the application does take some getting used to. I would suggest getting some stylus for the users who are not used to touch screen devices. Additionally - the best practice for the users is to 'shadow' each other - one doing the work in production while the other mirrors them in test. The more they can see and play with it up front - the better off you'll be. Start with your central distribution/warehouse areas first. Feel free to reach out if you want to discuss more. I had a conference call with Emkat a few weeks ago. They recommended the Zebra TC51 or TC52. Are either of you using these devices with a voice/data plan such as Verizon? We recently issued iPhones installed with Telemediq to our material handlers so they can communicate with the nursing floors more easily. It would be preferable if they had only one device to manage.

No - we're solely wifi here as far as I know.

Children's Mercy moved to Infor Cloud Suite in November 2019 and moved to the TC51's as well. We had similar issues with MSCM and have had to update software on the devices multiple times. We do not integrate voice, the devices are connected wireless through organization network. Would agree with earlier comment - having staff touch and test the devices up front with staff that will be using day to day will help. We are using the devices for picking inventory, PAR replenishment and Dock Logging / Deliveries as we are using MSCM for chain of custody.

We are WiFi on the TC51. We do experience issues with the application not picking up when the device has changed WiFi connectors even though the strength is above acceptable in all areas. This is a current issue we are trying to get INFOR to correct because it will cause you to loose data. The users will receive a message "Connection to the server was lost - do you want to reconnect?" Clicking yes or no does allow the device to reconnect even though WiFi is still connected and signal strength is good. We have instructed all of our users to send data to the server immediately before moving from one location to the next. Until this is resolved - a data plan is the best option if you have it available.

Thanks. I just spoke with Emkat this afternoon. They told me the TC51 and TC52 are not data capable. We would have to go to the TC56 and install a data card. But the TC51/52 is VoWiFi capable. We're not looking to move to the Android devices until the middle of next year so there's time for other solutions to possibly come forward.

We actually have the TC51's and have downloaded Vocera Collaboration Suite app to them. It basically replaces a Vocera badge, and the users seem to like it a lot better. Works almost the same as an actual Vocera badge. I'd say the users are more happy with that capability than always getting the "Connection to the server was lost" error! All-in-all, it was a good move for us too.

Jimmie, can you elaborate on the login experience with SSO and the kinks that Infor is working out?

We are on 10.1.8.28 of MSCM and have had the same issue with users not sending data before moving from location to location, losing WiFi temporarily and then when it reconnects in different location - they have lost all non-sent data. We worked with Infor and they have a possible fix in version 10.1.8.31 for MPC.APK. They say we can use this version with MSCM still being on version 10.1.8..28 with no conflict (aka fully supported). This fix also addresses some other issues we had like issues with the NEXT button, some lost orders, etc. In testing we found many issues resolved and we are now rolling out to all areas.

That's great news. We had test .31 but we were going to go ahead and take .34 since it had a correction for the back button. I am not sure if we were able to prove the wifi connection issue was resolved or not. I will have to check and see.

I know this is a very old thread but we are still having issues with our handheld units displaying the Communications error, try again? Is anyone still having this issue or any connectivity issues with their TC51's >

Thankfully no we are not seeing this issue. We updated to v 10.1.8.37 in 2021 and have since updated to build 2022.04 and all is well.

I believe we still this every so often, but just recently upgrade to 2022.10.01 so can't confirm it's still an issue or not. Typically our Android devices are locked down, but I've given the user access to the turn off/on the the wifi connection by swiping down from the top of the screen. When they get the error they can just click off the wifi icon for a few seconds and they click it back on they able to transmit. Hopefully this helps.

Hi steven- we are still using our TC51's and are on cloudsuite MT - the frequency of these errors have drastically reduced. I know that INFOR made some changes but our hospital also updated all of our wireless connection points (aruba). I'm not sure if it's was the combination of both changes or not.
