Stock searching screen going black

HI, this is a totaly longshot but I wondered if anyone has come across the following:

We have a 30 user opera site with a miture of windows 10 workstations & some are still on windows 7

On the windows 10 machines when they search for a stock item its instant.

Then if they search for another one, it takes about 1 minute, the screen freezes, then goes black, then it returns the stock item it has found.

Weve ran this by their IT people to check Antivirus & all network cards are gigabit & they are. When you look at process's in task manager when it is doing the searcin, the machine isnt being maxed out or anything - everything looks fine.

CNAME is 50mb in size so its not enormous - just cant think of anything else to suggest.

Have the Windows 10 machines had the registry changes that stop corruption under Windows 10 1809 applied? If so I would try reverting those changes.

This may not be relevant but had exact same issue few weeks ago with user saying it was taking over 30 seconds to find a stock record during which time the screen went black.

After comparing other pc's in the company and not finding the same issue we found he'd stopped connecting via a network cable. Asked him to re-connect pc via network cable which resolved it

Hi, no they havent. the machines in question are on 1909. We aplied the key on one of them to see if this would fix it, but it didnt. So we have removed it. Thanks

Hi, thanks for the response, theyre all on cabled connections, all 1 gigabit cards too, so were baffled.

Make sure the network card drivers are up to date, and then have a look at the MTU settings in the card driver properties.

hi good shout. I got their IT guy dialled on thsi morning & he searched for any updates, found one to do with the video card & one to do with the network card - updated both & restarted the machine - still the same!!! As you can guess, theyre saying its an Opera issue everything else is running fine, were stuck in the middle trying to explain its a network issue

Have had a similar issue in the past and this was down to the user having the remember forms positions and sizes on, took this off, and then logged back in as that user, the stock search was then instant.

hi John, thanks for the reply. YEs we also tried that. We finally got to the bottom of it, it took a while!!! Their previous partner had an SQL batch stock transfer routine that some users used "sometimes". It was this that was causing the problme but only to windows 10 machines. AS soon as you ended the task, the problem went away.

It was really difficult as this routine was only being run on a TS. So dialed onto the users machine, nothing was jumping out. We tried disabling all sorts & this process only appeared now & then, so even if we were on the TS, we werent always able to replicate it - nightmare!!!

Ayhow, they have stopped using this program & everything is now sorted
