Replacement item field in IC11 - best practice inquiry

Hi! I was wondering How other Supply Chain folks are managing the volume of substitutes that have come into play since Covid came around. Have you thought of creative solutions for monitoring items in the Replacement item field? Mainly so a new replacement item can be updated, prior to that substitute stocking out.

Anita - have you come up with anything here - we are still struggling with substitutes. We do not use Replacement item and wonder if this would be helpful. Can you share if this works well with inventory items or primarily with non-stock items? Do we have to have both items set up in inventory or will the replacement item go into the on hand of the original item?

Hi, Yes we do use it. It has been critical for us, for Inventory only. We use some process flows and other reporting tools to manage them. We are always trying to improve which was why I was curious what other facilities are doing. Substitutes expanded dramatically for all of us this year.

Primary considerations for the replacement item field related to Inventory:

The replacement item has to reside in the same location as the item on backorder
For the replacement item to automatically populate in RQC, the original will need to be at zero
The replacement item has to have the same unit of measure as the original
This does not work as a automatic replacement for IC141 transfers from another warehouse or for Par cart replenishment - even when its built in those locations. It has to be managed like its own item for those ordering needs.
