Quick way to view oldest Purchase Order lines

Hello,

I could easily write a report in Crystal to do this, but in the interest of keeping users within Visual, does anyone have a way to quickly display open Purchase Order lines from oldest to newest?

I want our purchasing manager to be able to view which PO's are slipping behind so that he can call a vendor and update our Receive Date so that the Material Planning Window reflects the new information. I've heard this report referred to as an "Expedite PO List."

It seems like a pretty standard view, but for the life of me I can't find this in Visual. The closest I've found is to use the spyglass in Purchase Order Entry and Quick Filter on STATUS=Released and sort by date ascending. Unfortunately, this only is able to filter and sort on PURCHASE_ORDER and not PURC_ORDER_LINE and so is not very helpful.

Why not use the "Receiving Report"?

I think the issue with "Receiving Report" is that you have to group by Vendor or Order ID. There's no way to sort on the Order Line Receive Date to see the oldest Purchase Order Lines regardless of Vendor.

Agreed, it's not by PO line but by header date, but if you wanted to keep people in visual then an alteration to the qrp is an alternative to the crystal route

Within the Purchase Order Entry window is a report to Print Open Purchase Orders. When it is exported it contains the data you are looking for (plus a lot more), so the qrp probably contains all those fields such as the line due date. This is another option for you, to modify the qrp for this report with a custom override for your manager. He might still have to sort it by due date in excel though.

We generally find it much easier to create custom reports using SSRS. Modifying the canned Visual reports gets old fast. We ended up writing a lot of extended queries and dealing with other annoyances to keep users in Visual. SSRS is not the most user-friendly program but it really gives a lot of freedom to create some nice reports. It also has a great subscription service so reports can be emailed on a schedule to users; we use this a lot.

Using Synoptix, its pretty easy to develop custom views/spheres for this kind of thing. Synergy SmartViews would work well also. But the primo solution, from what you describe, would be to get somebody like TrueFit, Synergy, Wayne Bourdage, etc. to write you a custom Throughput report-style report that would give you this list, with the functionality of single click into the PO from the report, and run within Visual so you don't have external apps/files to deal with.
