G/L Reporting Periods

The accounting department wants to change from a Fiscal 4-4-5 accounting calendar to a Calendar year calendar. We have already started calendar year 2011 - last week - but now they want to start 2011 in January. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure you'll have to file with the IRS for a change in accounting period and then you'll have to do a partial year financial with all the other IRS requirements and filings. Then you'll be able to start your new accounting period (calendar year).

I've changed calendars a couple times. As long as you are dealing with future periods Visual lets you change the calendar start and end dates. If you are already in a month and you want to change the end date its difficult -- maybe impossible. I had to do that once -- I didn't change the current period but rather closed the month early, opened the next period, and had everybody hold their transactions and post them in the next month. It wasn't too painful and it gave reasoanably clean cut-offs.
