MSCM benefits
Legacy Contributor
We seem to be having a terrible time getting our materials department interested in deploying Receiving and Delivery.
Aside from the obvious benefits of tracking packages, and being able to receive on the dock, would anyone like to contribute positive benefits they have experienced with R&D?
Thanks in advance.

RAD has been a little disappointing, cumbersome, slow, etc for us. So finding positives may be a little difficult. A lot of it probably has to do with how you are setup to do business. For example, we have more than one inventory location, and we allow POLines for these inventory locations to appear on the same PO. RAD does not like this at all. So the POReceving part of RAD we really do not use. However we do use the Miscellaneous Receipts part and we are going to try and roll out the Picking part of RAD within the next year.

We use RAD for the receiving dock operations as well as our inventory team operations.
Our inventory team will process warehouse picks generated from customer orders in Infor. Once they pick the order a delivery ticket prints with a Lawson Tracking bar code. They use this to deliver the order in RAD and obtain a customer signature. This is also a customer service data point we use to show the turn around time from order to delivery.
For both teams using RAD provides productivity reporting. The leadership in each area uses this to benchmark and set standards. The reporting can also show areas of opportunity and where to flex staff, if there is more work in one area than another.

On the receiving side we have the same problem as Todd. We have multiple inventory locations in one company that we allow to combine on PO's and MSCM doesn't allow you to receive for both locations at once due to bin detail. For that reason we don't use it on large PO's, but we do on smaller ones. Being able to receive small PO's on the dock is nice.
Our major benefit is using RAD for issues, returns, and picking. These three things have been very worthwhile for our organization. Our par locations are counted in MPC and generate requisitions which are fulfilled using RAD. We also enjoy the visibility on picking, issues, and returns in the MSCM application. Training staff to use handhelds for these functions is much easier than training them to use Portal. Also, the transactions happen in more real-time than log sheets.

All of the requisitions from RQC users also appear in picking and we can be aware of those requisitions sooner for order fulfillment. Being completely electronic also saves on paper expenses.

Dock logging allows us to quickly check in large FedEx and UPS shipments to determine if we have a discrepancy.
Miscellaneous Receipts allow us to track all the non-PO receipts and to whom they were delivered. It also allows end users to search to see if "trunk stock" has arrived for a scheduled procedure.
On dock receiving is a key benefit of course, although it will not currently allow you to check in an EDI856 order.
The delivery and tracking are icing on the cake. I can't tell you the number of times we had to look up a delivery and be able to tell a manager who in their department signed for it. Once had a part-time employee sign for a delivery and stick it in a closet so it wouldn't get lost. Unfortunately, no else thought to look there.
