Purchase Major and Minor Classes
unknown
Is anyone using this functionality? Interested in knowing what categories and how you maintain the groupings. Are you using some standard classification system?

We use it to denote the expense acct, such as med-surg, vascular, or urology, etc.
We are beginning to use the Minor class as the contract type, such as the Premier contract descriptions.

We use P-classes to run reports on groups of products by account (medical supplies, office supplies, IV solutions, etc.). For instance, if the account is 760200 we would use 7602 for the major class and the minor class would be blank. We've also used them in the past to limit the ordering of certain items to a few people. The major problem with that is you have to maintain the P-class tab in RQ04 for every requester that you want to keep from ordering those items.

For the most part, yes, but we also have computer supply, lab consumable, anesthesia supply, etc. If we run a report on the major classes, we could tell what category or dept. they are used.
