Line Counter- Report Formatter
Legacy Contributor
Hi-
Creating a new report using Report Formatter logic.
Basically the report is reading through a document detail file (line detail ) but only printing
a single line for the document ( total weight for the selected lines ).
At the end of the report we get the total number of document printed but would also like to have the number of line items that were selected for the reported data (even though the line detail is not being printed ).
Looking to see if someone has some tips on how to accomplish this while using the formatter logic. trying to not add a tier simply because they will never print that detail and sometimes with that detail in a tier- sending the report to a file/excel - the detail records create lines anyway.
Thank you.

Cain,
Since you did not say so, I'll ask - are you getting the total weight for all the orders too, or just printing the weight of the document in the detail section?
Since I think you are already spinning through the line file to gather the total weight of the selected lines, you might as well add the line count to that computation and put the line count to the order detail section with the weight. You would then need to total that field as a "SUM" and you can then get the total number of lines. While you're at it you could total the weight too if you are not already doing it.
If you total the weight then at the end of the report you will have the total weight for all orders, and the total number of lines for all orders.
Not the best, but the only thing that I can think of to get the total number of lines.
