Opera 3 on virtual servers experiencing file accessing issues
alex
Hi all,
I am hoping someone may be able to help or provide some advice.
We have a customer who is running Opera 3 on a virtual server (Win2008 R2 with relevant SP). The Opera install is on a virtual apps server and they have a few remote desktop virtual servers which the users connect to.
They are experiencing file accessing issues - error reading file on seqnotif.dbf, file length / record count inconsistency on temp files as a couple of examples. They have also experienced problems finding information in the system - records although saved by one user cannot be viewed or found by another, there seems to be a delay in them appearing but this is inconsistent. They also have regular file locking issues.
We don't look after the hardware so are liaising with the customers IT company. They have a multiple disk array in the host servers but they are also using a solid state cache and we are wondering whether it is the caching of files which is contributing to the problems. Can/should Opera be used in this sort of environment, does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks,
Alex

I would ensure that the Server 2008 R2 is on Service Pack 1 and then apply this Microsoft-recommended Enterprise Hotfix Rollup:
support.microsoft.com/.../2775511
Also applies to Windows 7 workstations.

Also worth checking the Opera 3 folders are excluded from any realtime antivirus protection.

Hi,
Thank you Alan and Darren for your suggestions. I have passed on the hotfix information and will update if this resolves the issues. The AV is definitely excluded.
