LSAData Registration
Legacy Contributor
I am trying to get the COM objects to work on SQL Server 2008 R2. I am registering the database with the LSA Data registration program.
LSAData.DLL ver 6.5.0.1022
LSAData.EXE ver 6.6.0.1
I enter in the following
Application VMFG
Database SQLServer
Provider oledb
Provider SQLoledb
Check the box for client side.
It says the test of all the interface are successful. The registration is successful but, when I go to test the connection it says it's successful but it locks up and the hour glass does not go away. I left it set for about 3 or 4 minutes before just closing it. I turned off my windows firewall and this didn't help. Any suggestions??
Thanks
Joel

Finally figured this out and got it to work. Now the only thing is the COM's are being dropped and there is nothing to replace them. Does anyone know how to connect to SQL Server using an ADODB connection in a macro??? I get tthe error Class not defined: 'ADODB' . It works in my VB programs.

Joel,
There is a replacement, it's offered by SynergyResources in New England. But, it's a purchased item.

Also, you can connect to SQL Server in a macro BUT you cannot protect the account and password that you are using -- I think you can force the user to supply the account and password by leaving it out? but you cannot piggyback on the username and password supplied in the macro variables.
You would only ever want to read from the database using this direct connection, though.
There are many examples of this in the solutions database. Just search for macro or sql server.
Also, you might want to join the Yahoo group(s) for Visual. There is a link somewhere in the Communities for being invited to join. You can't go to the group and request from there.
Good luck -

Joel,
The COM objects are not going away any time soon. We just clarified that they are not within the scope of support because most of the time we were debugging people's custom code. They will eventually be replaced with Infor ION. We are currently publishing 25 business object documents (BODs) and consuming 13. The COM objects will not be removed from the code until we have a full replacement.

Danna,
Are the COM objects still valid against the Visual 6.5.4 release? I was under the impression that they were no longer a good idea to use. Do they just not support all the fields that are now in the records? I would like to use them if they are still valid with Visual 6.5.4.
Thanks -

Dorothy,
That's right, they don't have every field available but if they have the fields you are looking for, it's no harm in using them with 6.5.4.
