Crystal Report Writer compatibility with Visual Enterprise 6.3.8
Legacy Contributor
I am looking to purchase SAP Crystal report writer Edition 2011 and would like to know if it is compatible to Visual Enterprise 6.3.8. Is any one using Crystal report writer?

We have historically utilized Crystal with 6.3.8 (SQL SERVER DB), but are now working with SQL Server Reporting Services, which is part of SQL server and not an add-on.

I just installed Crystal 2011. To my surprise, it is able to open files associated with Visual 6.1.3 on SQLBase, which are Crystal 7 or 8, and 6.5.4 on SQLServer (Crystal XI?).
We are in the middle of an upgrade, so having one version of CR that can access old and new reports is a good thing.

Some clarification might be helpful. What do you mean by compatible:
1. Allows viewing reports that you create which show Visual data
2. Integrates with Visual Manufacturing modules
3. Allows you to modify Crystal reports that are supplied with some of the extra cost modules, and that are displayed by those modules.
For #1 or #2, you should be able to use the latest version of Crystal Reports. See my CustomReporting presentation in the files area of the VMIUG-TEC group on Yahoo or the shared presentations on vmneug.org:

For #3, you must use the same version of Crystal Reports that was used to originally create the reports - otherwise the binary version of the report will change, and that will probably prevent an older version of the viewer that is used by the Visual module from being able to display the report.

Charles - I am just looking at #1 - need to create my own reports to analyze variances in job cost.
Thanks!
