FACTS 7.3 on Windows 7 Professional
Legacy Contributor
I know this scenario is not supported but I noticed several people have found way's of making this scenario work.
Has anyone encountered and successfully made this scenario work?
What I have been told in the past as some possible work around is Installing Windows XP Mode and installing and running FACTS 7.3 Client from there. Another scenario was to install a later version of Windx.
Just for testing purposes Windows XP Mode failed horribly; I know Windows states is help running XP Programs on a Windows 7 frame- but it's garbage in my eyes. I then installed a later version of Windx and FACTS connected successfully. The only issue I seen is when the Client gets to FACTS screen that display Grids, Once the Client hits a Grid screen, I receive an Error 60- Host operating System (I'm not sure the exact words)
Can anyone give any insight to the scenario and if anyone has made this scenario work.

I have used XP mode at several different customers running older versions of FACTS. It has always worked extremely well. Don't forget that XP mode is another machine running on the network and should have antivirus protection installed.

What version of PVX do you have on the server side? What version of Windx have you tried on the client side? I have several older FACTS users that have Windows 7 with no issues - I have NOT resorted to XP mode.

We had a client running FACTS 7.6.1, PVX/WDX 7.60, on two Windows 7 PCs and they experienced PVX crashes when in inquiries that have views (ARI610, SOI610, ICI610, etc.). Intermittently PVX would crash when switching between views. For one of the PCs, the client was able to get XP (real OS, not Win 7 in XP mode), but the issue is still unresolved about how to get it to work under Win 7 since XP won't always be an option.
We've always noticed problems when there's a PVX server and WDX version mismatch.

I have hesitated to post this as it is purely theoretical (I havent tried it). It is known that windx must match the same PVX version as is on the server. I *don't* believe that this is necessarily the case with the "providex" running on the client. Therefore, it should be possible to upgrade the PVX on the client and, as long as you don't unpgrade the Windx, things should run. Or put another way, when PVX is enhanced I don't believe "old" behavior is changed. The new providex should interpret the various Windx tokens correctly with no problems.

Windx 7.6 had a known issue - see incident Solution 995931
The same fix applies for Vista and Win7
